The Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) and Delhi Technological University (DTU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen industry–academia collaboration in the electrical and electronics sector.
The MoU was signed by Binod Doley, registrar, DTU, and Charu Mathur, director general, IEEMA, on behalf of the two organisations.
Speaking on the importance of industry engagement in higher education, Prateek Sharma, vice chancellor of DTU, said the partnership would help bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. He noted that sustained industry exposure during college is essential to build self-reliance in core engineering sectors and ensure students graduate as industry-ready professionals.
Highlighting the sector’s growth and global competitiveness, Vikram Gandotra, president, IEEMA, said India has significantly reduced its import dependence and emerged as a global supplier of high-quality electrical and electronics products. He added that strengthening collaboration between industry and academia is critical to sustaining this growth momentum.
Outlining the focus areas of the partnership, Charu Mathur said the collaboration would be outcome-driven, with an emphasis on identifying industry challenges for academic engagement, supporting startup expansion, and enabling DTU’s participation in technical conferences and research initiatives.
The MoU institutionalises a long-term partnership under the Industry–Academia Engagement Initiative, aimed at integrating industrial insights into academic programmes. The collaboration will support curriculum upgrades in high-growth areas such as clean energy, digital grids, sustainable materials, and power electronics.
Beyond education, the partnership will also focus on joint research, startup mentorship, and policy engagement aligned with India’s decarbonisation and energy transition goals. IEEMA will join DTU’s Industry–Academia Council as part of the collaboration.
A joint working group comprising experts from DTU and IEEMA will oversee the partnership. The group will meet twice a year to approve action plans and monitor progress against defined outcomes.
The IEEMA–DTU collaboration is expected to serve as a model for practice-oriented engineering education aligned with the National Education Policy and India’s manufacturing and energy transition priorities.
