In a significant step toward redefining journalism education, Rayat Bahra University (RBU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Tribune Trust to establish Punjab’s first AI-Enabled Media School. The strategic collaboration aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the rapidly evolving media industry by integrating newsroom practices, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation into academic training.
The partnership will enable RBU’s School of Mass Communication & Journalism to work closely with North India’s largest daily newspaper group across key domains, including digital storytelling, multimedia journalism, public relations, and allied communication disciplines. Students will benefit from experiential learning opportunities through structured internships, newsroom exposure, mentorship from senior media professionals, and practical training designed to meet contemporary industry requirements.
A key highlight of the initiative is the introduction of a specialized curriculum focused on emerging media competencies such as AI-assisted reporting, digital verification, fact-checking, ethical storytelling, and data-driven journalism. The programme seeks to prepare graduates with the technological expertise, professional ethics, and adaptability required in today’s fast-changing communication landscape.
Speaking on the occasion, RBU Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra said the collaboration reflects the university’s commitment to delivering industry-oriented education. He noted that blending academic learning with real-world newsroom experience would equip students with the skills and confidence needed to excel in modern media professions.
Beyond student training, the MoU also provides a framework for collaborative academic activities, including expert lectures, workshops, faculty development programmes, and industry-led seminars. The initiative is expected to strengthen the university’s academic ecosystem while encouraging innovation and responsible use of AI in journalism and communication.
