IIHMR University, Jaipur, has appointed Ambassador Satish Chand Mehta, IFS (Retd.), as its Chairperson for a five-year term, effective as part of the university’s efforts to strengthen academic excellence, research and international collaborations.
Announced on October 26, 2026, the appointment comes as the university seeks to expand its national and global engagement in healthcare management, public health, pharmaceutical management and development.
Dr. P.R. Sodani, President of IIHMR University, welcomed the appointment, highlighting Mehta’s diplomatic experience, international exposure and engagement with education and philanthropic initiatives. He said the university aims to build on IIHMR’s more than four-decade legacy by strengthening research, developing global partnerships and expanding its institutional impact.
Mehta brings extensive experience from his career in the Indian Foreign Service. During his diplomatic service, he served in Indian missions in France, Côte d’Ivoire, Italy, New York, Israel, Canada and Kuwait, undertaking responsibilities in various capacities, including as ambassador.
His association with the Global Advisory Council of the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto, spanning more than two decades, also reflects his engagement with higher education and international academic institutions.
Beyond diplomacy, Mehta has been involved in philanthropic and social welfare initiatives. He serves as president of Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, a Jaipur-based organisation supporting persons with disabilities. He also heads the Gunjan Foundation in New Delhi, which works to improve access to quality education for underprivileged children.
Under his leadership, IIHMR University plans to deepen collaborations with national and international institutions, encourage interdisciplinary research, strengthen industry and public-sector partnerships, and prepare professionals to address emerging challenges in healthcare management and digital health.
Founded in 1984, IIHMR has a longstanding presence in health management education, research, training and consultancy. The university said Mehta’s appointment marks a new phase in its efforts to advance academic distinction, social responsibility and sustainable development.
