Six international universities planning campuses in India have committed scholarships worth ₹1,000 crore for the upcoming academic year, signalling a deepening push into the country’s higher education sector.
The institutions—University of Aberdeen, University of Bristol, Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Liverpool, Victoria University, and University of York—have signed agreements to establish campuses in Navi Mumbai’s planned Educity hub. Scholarships will range from partial fee waivers to full funding, based on merit and financial need.
The initiative comes as foreign institutions expand their presence under India’s evolving regulatory framework, aiming to make global education more accessible domestically. Programme costs at these campuses are expected to be 30–40% lower than studying abroad, further supported by financial aid.
Experts say the model could strengthen capacity in high-demand fields such as STEM while widening access for students who previously lacked opportunities for international education. It also reflects a broader shift toward internationalisation, with India emerging as a key destination for transnational higher education.
