Odisha is set to add a new institution to its higher education landscape with the inauguration of Jagadguru Kripalu University (JKU) by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. The newly established private university aims to promote multidisciplinary education, research, and innovation while aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Located on a 100-acre campus between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the university has been designed as a future-ready institution with a focus on academic excellence, employability, and sustainable development. The campus is expected to contribute to both the educational and economic growth of the region by attracting students from Odisha and across the country.
Founded by spiritual leader and IIT-IIM alumnus Swami Mukundananda, the university draws inspiration from Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj. Its academic model seeks to integrate contemporary education with Indian knowledge systems, combining technological advancement with value-based learning.
The university plans to offer programmes across disciplines including Artificial Intelligence, management, healthcare, life sciences, and yogic sciences. It also intends to incorporate apprenticeship-linked learning and industry collaborations into its curriculum, addressing the growing demand for graduates equipped with practical skills alongside academic knowledge.
According to the university, its educational approach emphasises not only intellectual development but also emotional resilience, ethics, and leadership, recognising the importance of preparing students for the personal and professional challenges of a rapidly changing world.
The inauguration ceremony is expected to bring together representatives from government, academia, and industry, reflecting the increasing collaboration among these sectors in strengthening India’s higher education ecosystem. Education experts note that the establishment of Jagadguru Kripalu University aligns with the broader expansion of higher education infrastructure in eastern India and supports the implementation of NEP 2020 through multidisciplinary and skill-oriented learning.
