NEW DELHI: The Nation First Policy Research and Change Foundation (NFPRC) organised a workshop for Members of Parliament and State Legislators at the India Habitat Centre, bringing together policymakers and experts to discuss climate-resilient agriculture, crop insurance, irrigation, digital communication, and legislative capacity building.
Addressing the workshop, Tarun Chugh, Member of Rajya Sabha and Chairperson of NFPRC Foundation, stressed the importance of evidence-based policymaking, climate-resilient governance, crop diversification, water conservation, irrigation, and crop insurance in strengthening India’s agricultural resilience and supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
During a session titled “Climate Resilience in Agriculture: From Policy to Last-Mile Delivery,” Praveen Kumar Singh, Agriculture Commissioner at the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), highlighted region-specific crop diversification, promotion of millets, pulses, oilseeds and horticulture, alongside watershed development, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and micro-irrigation. They underscored the importance of climate-resilient farming practices in reducing farmers’ vulnerability to climate change.
Speaking on “Agricultural Innovation at Scale: Technology, Finance and Governance,” Ramesh Chand, Distinguished Professor at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) and former Member of NITI Aayog, discussed the role of technology, crop insurance, irrigation initiatives, and government interventions in strengthening agricultural resilience. He also highlighted the growing use of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), drones, and digital supply chains in Indian agriculture.
The workshop also featured a session on “Social Media and Its Adaptability” by communication expert Arun Yadav, who discussed social media algorithms, analytics, audience engagement, misinformation detection, fact verification, data privacy, cybersecurity, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in digital communication.
Concluding the event, Abhinav Prakash, Board Member of NFPRC Foundation, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to evidence-based policy dialogue and legislative capacity building.
