Fourteen-year-old Sonali Thudu from Laxmipur village in Jharkhand has been given a fresh opportunity to pursue her education after Alakh Pandey, Founder and CEO of PhysicsWallah (PW), sponsored her schooling.
During a visit to Laxmipur to inaugurate a digital library for students, Alakh Pandey met Sonali, a student from a tribal community whose education had been interrupted due to financial hardships. Despite the challenges, Sonali shared her dream of becoming a nurse and expressed her desire to study at St. Mary School, a residential school in Tisri, Giridih district.
Sonali recounted how her family’s financial condition worsened after her father lost his housekeeping job in Hyderabad following an accident. Her mother now travels nearly 10 kilometres daily to work on a local farm, caring for animals to support the family.
Touched by Sonali’s determination, Alakh Pandey accompanied her and her parents to St. Mary School, where he facilitated her admission. He has sponsored her tuition and hostel fees for Classes 9 and 10 and extended additional financial support to meet her educational needs. He also presented Sonali with a new school uniform and personally introduced her to her teachers and classmates as she began her new academic journey.
The initiative highlights the transformative impact of timely educational support, demonstrating how access to quality education and encouragement can help students overcome financial barriers and pursue their aspirations.
