IIT Mandi Holds 14th Convocation, Awards Degrees to 643 Students; Largest-Ever BTech Batch Graduates

The ceremony marked a historic milestone for the institute with the graduation of its largest-ever BTech batch comprising 321 students.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi celebrated its 14th Convocation at its North Campus in Himachal Pradesh’s Kamand Valley, awarding degrees to 643 students, including 63 PhD scholars. The ceremony marked a historic milestone for the institute with the graduation of its largest-ever BTech batch comprising 321 students.

The graduating cohort included 321 undergraduate students, 259 postgraduate students, and 63 doctoral scholars. The event was attended by B.K. Goenka, Founder of Welspun World, as Chief Guest, while Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, joined as Guests of Honour. The convocation was chaired by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Mandi.

Addressing the graduates, Goenka encouraged them to embrace originality, courage, and resilience in an era shaped by artificial intelligence. He urged students to apply knowledge meaningfully and contribute to India’s future through innovation and commitment.

IIT Mandi Director Prof. Laxmidhar Behera highlighted the institute’s growing research and academic ecosystem, noting that it had recently secured externally sponsored research projects worth nearly ₹100 crore. He also pointed to the launch of new programmes, including India’s first BTech in Quantum Science and Engineering, alongside specialised programmes in Agricultural Engineering with Data Analytics and Chemical Engineering with Data Analytics.

Among the top honours, Vayun Goel received the prestigious President of India Gold Medal as well as the Institute Gold Medal in Computer Science and Engineering. Sukhvansh Jain was awarded the Director’s Gold Medal for excellence in academics, leadership, and overall development.

Several students were recognised for outstanding achievements across undergraduate and postgraduate disciplines, while innovation, leadership, and research excellence were celebrated through special awards and medals.

The convocation reflected IIT Mandi’s continued focus on academic excellence, innovation-driven education, and the development of future-ready talent contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
