In a significant step toward addressing learning disparities among school-going children, Lotus Petal Foundation has launched Teach Live, a live and interactive online remedial learning programme designed to provide additional academic support to students who need help beyond the classroom.
Currently in its pilot phase, Teach Live is benefiting 30 students across Haryana and Delhi, reaching children in Grades 3 to 8 between the ages of 7 and 14. The Foundation plans to expand the initiative across India, bringing quality academic support to children from underserved communities.
Despite high school enrolment rates across the country, millions of children continue to struggle with learning at grade level. Many students lack access to academic assistance at home, as their parents, though deeply committed to their children’s education, may not have had the opportunity to receive formal schooling themselves. Teach Live seeks to bridge this gap by offering structured, teacher-led learning support after school hours.
The programme provides live classes conducted by qualified educators who work closely with students to strengthen foundational skills, address learning gaps, and improve overall educational outcomes. Unlike pre-recorded lessons or automated learning platforms, Teach Live emphasizes real-time interaction, allowing teachers to answer questions, provide personalized guidance, and adapt instruction according to individual learning needs.
The launch comes amid ongoing concerns about educational challenges in India. A recent NITI Aayog report highlighted critical issues, including over one million teacher vacancies, pupil-teacher ratios of up to 47:1 in certain regions, and more than one lakh schools being managed by a single teacher.
“Being present in a classroom does not automatically translate into learning. Many children need additional support, encouragement, and explanation to truly understand concepts,” said Kushal Raj Chakravorty, Founder and Managing Trustee of Lotus Petal Foundation. “Teach Live was created to ensure that every child has access to a teacher who can guide them, regardless of their circumstances.”
By leveraging technology and dedicated educators, Teach Live aims to complement existing educational efforts and create equitable learning opportunities for children across India. The Foundation has also invited individuals, institutions, and organizations to partner in supporting and expanding the initiative.
