The role of emerging technologies in transforming India’s education sector came under detailed discussion at a roundtable consultation jointly organised by the National Forum for Public Policy Research (NFPRC) and PANJ Foundation at the India Habitat Centre here on Monday.
Titled “Emerging Technologies in Strengthening India’s Education Sector,” the consultation brought together Members of Parliament, policymakers, technology experts, industry professionals and educationists to deliberate on the opportunities and challenges arising from the rapid adoption of new technologies in education.
The meeting sought to examine how technologies could be leveraged to improve access, quality and inclusivity in education while developing a forward-looking policy framework for India. Participants also explored ways in which technological innovations could address emerging requirements across the education ecosystem and support more effective delivery of learning.
Members of Parliament Manish Tewari, Atul Garg, Karti Chidambaram, Sujeet Kumar and Konda Vishweshwar Reddy participated in the discussions and shared their perspectives on the evolving role of technology in education and the policy priorities that could shape its future.
Senior representatives from NIELIT India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of Education also attended the programme as government representatives. Their participation provided an opportunity for dialogue between policymakers, government institutions, technology stakeholders and education practitioners.
The consultation emphasised the need to move beyond technology adoption alone and focus on how emerging tools and platforms can contribute meaningfully to educational outcomes. Participants highlighted the importance of developing policies that are responsive to technological change while keeping accessibility, equity and the needs of learners at the centre.
The organisers said the discussions were intended not merely as an exchange of views but as an effort to generate actionable insights that could contribute directly to national policymaking. The roundtable is expected to inform continuing conversations on the responsible and effective integration of emerging technologies into India’s education system.
The consultation comes at a time when technological innovation is increasingly influencing teaching, learning, assessment and education administration, making sustained engagement among policymakers and technology and education stakeholders increasingly important.
