Kerala-based AI-powered learning platform EdMe AI has reported a significant achievement in the civil services examination preparation space, claiming that its proprietary artificial intelligence model successfully identified 85 per cent of the current affairs-related topics that appeared in the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination held on May 24, 2026.
According to the startup, 63 out of 74 current affairs-linked topics featured in the General Studies Paper I of the examination were predicted in advance through extensive analysis conducted by its AI system. Of these, 34 were direct matches, while nearly 30 others were covered through related themes and concepts highlighted by the platform during the preparation cycle.
Founded by Simeon Samuel and Thejas Sushil, alumni of College of Engineering Trivandrum, EdMe AI is recognised as Kerala’s first AI-based learning platform. The startup initially received support from Kerala Startup Mission and has grown into a six-member team serving more than 5,000 active users.
The company emphasised that its objective is not to provide shortcuts for cracking competitive examinations but to help aspirants identify important themes, strengthen conceptual understanding, and pursue a more structured and informed approach to learning.
To develop its predictive capabilities, EdMe AI trained its model using more than 1.5 million current affairs articles published between 2011 and 2019. The system was subsequently back-tested against UPSC question papers from 2020 to 2025, where it achieved an average recall rate of 62.6 per cent.
“Our objective was neither to create a shortcut to crack the UPSC examination nor encourage peripheral learning. We wanted to help candidates identify topics that require in-depth attention and solidify basic concepts,” said Simeon Samuel, co-founder of EdMe AI.
The model identified 266 high-probability topics and generated 792 multiple-choice questions supported by distractors, answers and detailed explanations. Among the topics successfully flagged ahead of the examination were the National Quantum Mission, Deep Ocean Mission, Green Hydrogen, UPI and Digital Rupee architecture, Rare Earth Elements, Vizhinjam Port, ONDC, and drone swarm technologies.
