The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand opportunities for joint research, postgraduate supervision and student and faculty exchange.
The agreement creates a framework for collaboration between IIT Delhi and AcSIR-associated research institutes, including laboratories under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and other research organisations.
PhD and Postgraduate Students Can Work Across Institutions
One of the key provisions is joint supervision for PhD, M.Tech. and MS(R) students. Students participating in the collaborative framework can have one supervisor from IIT Delhi and another from an AcSIR-associated research institute, allowing them to draw on expertise and research facilities from both institutions.
The MoU also allows students, research scholars and faculty members to undertake academic and research visits to the partner institution.
Students from IIT Delhi and AcSIR will be able to undertake coursework and research work at the other institution without taking separate admission or paying tuition fees to the host institution. For researchers, the arrangement is intended to make it easier to work across institutional laboratories and pursue projects in areas of mutual interest.
Access to Wider Research Infrastructure
The partnership brings together IIT Delhi’s academic programmes and research capabilities with AcSIR’s network of research institutes. This could allow students working on interdisciplinary projects to access facilities and expertise beyond their home institution.
Faculty members from IIT Delhi and AcSIR-associated institutes will also be able to collaborate on joint research projects. Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, said the collaboration would allow researchers to share ideas, work on challenging research problems and develop solutions to societal challenges.
Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Director of AcSIR, said the agreement would give a wider pool of students and researchers access to the research infrastructure and expertise available across IIT and AcSIR faculties. He also highlighted opportunities for students to work on research problems with industrial relevance.
The MoU was signed in the presence of senior officials from both institutions, including directors, deans, associate deans and heads of departments. The institutions also presented their academic and research activities during the signing ceremony.
