Reliance Foundation has announced a contribution of ₹21 crore to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support families affected by the recent floods in Upper Assam, while continuing its extensive relief and rehabilitation efforts on the ground.
The announcement was made by Reliance Foundation Founder and Chairperson Nita M. Ambani, who expressed solidarity with flood-affected communities and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts. “Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest solidarity are with the people of Assam. My heart goes out to every family who has been affected by these devastating floods. Please know that you are not alone,” she said in a statement.
The financial contribution comes in addition to relief operations already being undertaken by Reliance Foundation, Vantara and volunteers from across the Reliance Group in coordination with the Assam Government and local authorities.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the contribution and thanked Reliance Foundation for its continued support during times of crisis. In a message shared on social media, he recalled the Foundation’s assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciated its latest contribution towards flood relief, alongside ongoing efforts to provide food, healthcare services, emergency shelter and veterinary care for livestock in affected districts.
Reliance Foundation said its current operations are focused on the flood-hit districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo, with the aim of reaching at least 50,000 vulnerable people through relief and recovery measures. These include the restoration of drinking water systems, installation of water purification units, community kitchens serving hot meals, desilting and rehabilitation of healthcare centres, and support for livestock through door-to-door veterinary services led by Vantara.
According to the Foundation, several interventions have already benefited thousands of residents, with relief activities expected to continue and expand in the coming days. The organisation said its efforts are centred on restoring essential services and helping affected families return to their homes at the earliest through community-based rehabilitation initiatives.
Reliance Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Reliance Industries Limited, works across areas including rural transformation, education, healthcare, disaster management, women’s empowerment, sports, urban renewal, and arts and culture. It states that its programmes have reached more than 100 million people across over 98,000 villages and urban locations in India.
