Thiruvananthapuram: The BRIC–Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) on Friday hosted the curtain raiser for the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025, kicking off nationwide preparations for the annual science event.
The gathering served as a prelude to the main festival, which will be held in Chandigarh from December 6 to 9, 2025, under the national theme “Vigyan Se Samruddhi: For Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” The event aimed to raise awareness about IISF 2025 and highlight the cutting-edge research and services underway at BRIC-RGCB.
IISF 2025 seeks to bring together scientists, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, students, and the public to celebrate scientific progress, exchange knowledge, and collectively strengthen India’s scientific capabilities.
“The world needs innovative solutions driven by science to tackle present and future challenges, and festivals like IISF are platforms to attract young minds into science,” said Dr. Santhosh Kumar T R, Director (Additional Charge), BRIC-RGCB, in his opening remarks.
Vivekananda Pai, Secretary General of Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), delivered an overview of IISF 2025, outlining its objectives and opportunities for public engagement. Dr. K. B. Harikumar, Scientist, BRIC-CDFD, briefed students on the Government of India’s “D.E.S.I.G.N for BioE3” challenge, launched as part of the curtain raiser activities.
Invited talks by RGCB scientists Dr. Dileep Vasudevan and Dr. K. R. Mahendran showcased ongoing research programmes at the institute, offering insights into advancements in biotechnology and allied sciences.
Students later participated in a guided tour of RGCB’s laboratories and research facilities, gaining exposure to contemporary research environments and emerging scientific technologies.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anish N P, Deputy Registrar, BRIC-RGCB.
