Lovely Professional University (LPU) has climbed to the 187th position in Asia and 7th among private universities in India in the latest QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
The university’s performance marks a notable leap from last year’s 226th position in Asia and 27th in India, placing it now 17th among all Indian institutions, both public and private.
According to QS data, LPU’s overall improvement was driven by its strong performance in the International Research Network (IRN) indicator, where it ranked 56th in Asia and 5th in India. The parameter evaluates the diversity and strength of a university’s global research collaborations.
LPU’s new position puts it ahead of several established institutions such as IIT Indore, IIT (BHU) Varanasi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Dhanbad, IIT Mandi, IIT Patna, IIT Ropar, and all National Institutes of Technology (NITs).
In a statement, Ashok Kumar Mittal, Founder Chancellor of LPU and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), said the result “reflects the university’s continuous focus on research, innovation, and academic excellence.”
The QS Asia University Rankings 2026 assessed higher education institutions on 11 indicators, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty–Student Ratio, International Research Network, Citations per Paper, Papers per Faculty, Staff with PhD, International Faculty, International Students, Inbound Exchange Students, and Outbound Exchange Students.
